This weekend I attended this small party to celebrate the engagement of my Japanese female friend (the lucky guy's a Kiwi and they are moving outside of Japan this fall). I was just enjoying my drink and chatting with a few people I know when this woman came up to me and was like, "Kimura-san! Aren't you Kimura-san?"
I knew I've never met her before, so I was kind of taken aback. Then she went on to inform me that she knew my name and face through Facebook (I'm among the friends of the lady in question for whom the party's been thrown). Oh man. I knew I didn't really want to put my picture on it, but I was kind of talked into doing so. It's not such a big issue, but still it was a bit creepy.
In fact, this whole Facebook thing is creepy. I have no idea why the Americans love this so much. I guess I would be changing my picture, if not taking down the whole account.
