Started watching the 2nd season of the drama The L-Word. I guess it's kind of strange for a guy to be watching this show. But then again, I'd bet I'm the only guy you'd ever meet who has watched the whole series of Sex and the City. Yep, seen every episode, even the movie too:-) (I agree with SATC watchers I know in RL; the original drama is better than the movie)

Okay, laugh away you lucky bastards in North America; dramas from your part of the world come around here too late; after the 1st season of Battlestar Galactica, Super Drama! TV started to air the 1st season of The Wire, a glitty no-nonsense cops-versus-gangs drama about the drug war on the street of Baltimore.
I watched the 1st episode expecting nothing (or rather, wishing it was the 2nd season of Battlestar Galactica) but ten minutes into it I found myself totally hooked. Things don't move very fast, but instead of speed you get details, both among the cops and the gangs. First its dead-on dialogues got my attention (I mentioned somewhere back about my big fetish with well-written dialogues), then its portrayal of political/ internal drama in the police department as well as between the police, DA and the court. Characters, on both sides of the law, are all real and interesting. (from what I've read on the Internet the writers are a crime non-fiction writer and an ex-cop)
I realize this one's well into its 4th or 5th season over there so it's probably an old news for drama fans out there, but it certainly is a surprise find for me. Go Super Drama! TV! (^o^)
There have been several dramas that I've been following (CSI, The Sopranos etc.). They started airing Battlestar Galactica in Japan (on Super Drama! TV if you know anything about J-cable) lately and it frakking rocks! Although it's a sci-fi drama, it doesn't shy away from heavy topics such as politics, democracy and religion (although you could say the last item plays a bit too much role in it for this type of drama- and come to think of it, all good science fiction works were, deep down, investigation into heavy topics like these). It's got great characters, plot twists and interplanetary fireballs to keep you entertained as well.

So I started watching Heroes. Been through first 2 episodes and so far it seems promising- when I read about this drama of seemingly normal people with extraordinary abilities, they talk a lot about its story (which so far works okay) but its visual style is strikingly good and there are some very impressive and well-considered shots that should put some bland and easily forgettable movies out there to shame. It says a lot about the quality of tv drama in the U.S. nowadays.
Damn; another drama that I just have to watch! This HBO/BBC produced drama is a must for anyone who's interested in Ancient Rome. I don't mind what some people call historical inaccuracy (I don't have deep knowledge of this era to really notice them all in the first place), for me all historical drama would suffer some from it 100% historically accurate drama will be great on History Channel, but it's the creative imagination of writers and directors within boundary of historical facts and contexts that make such dramas entertaining and intriguing.
Man. More of those gripping dramas come out of the U.S. I might have to unplug on damn AXN (cable channel) and go into rehab. I wonder if I can hobnob with celebrities there? (fat chance as they won't go into rehab in Japan when they got caught DUI or saying stupid things about Jewish people).
I have this love for well-written dialogues/lines in movies and dramas. Good dialogues give me thrill and excitement like some people might get from big explosions on screen (not that I don't get excited by big explosions, but gives me more reasons to enjoy the show even when things are not exploding :-). For example I ended up watching "Sex an the City" back to back because of its great dialogues.
My attention has been diverted to The Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex 2nd GIG for a while but I've got myself restarted on 24 again. What is notable about the 4th season of this American drama, at least in the beginning, is that they are getting careless with the whole setup; anything from Turkey, it must be terrorism (and... come on, what kind of computer language has Turkish in it???). Also the "good guys" in the drama are really casual about using torture alternative method of investigation... Not the best way to promote their so called war to the rest of the world...
It's got all of your 24 stuff for sure, but I already have a feeling after going through the season I would decide the 2nd GIG was a better experience... Let's see how things go.
